Ali Aydan: How I believe we can create healthier work environments

👉 It’s time to rethink the culture around what’s “normal” at work.

Let’s face it. If we’re not supporting our teams holistically, we’re missing out on their potential. We need to normalise the often misunderstood things to build truly inclusive and high-performing teams.

Here are 6 areas that need a culture shift:

➡️ Time off for mental health:
We allow time off for physical illness — why not mental health? Prioritising mental well-being ensures employees return recharged and more engaged.

➡️Gaps in CVs:
Life happens. Career gaps shouldn’t automatically disqualify someone. What they learned in those gaps often adds a new dimension to their skill set.

➡️Asking for help:
Seeking help is a strength, not a weakness. Encouraging open communication prevents burnout and builds trust within teams.

➡️Authentic emotions:
People aren’t robots. Creating spaces where employees can express their emotions fosters real connections and understanding.

➡️Listening to feedback:
Feedback is a gift. It’s not about fault-finding but finding opportunities to grow together. Leaders need to model active listening.

➡️Recognising achievements:
Big or small, acknowledgement drives motivation. Celebrating wins boosts morale and reinforces positive behaviour.

Here’s the twist: Normalising these behaviours won’t just make the workplace kinder — it’ll make it more productive.
