Growth rarely feels comfortable. It often asks you to leave behind what’s safe and step into the unknown.
I’ve experienced this myself. I’ve had roles I loved, teams I thrived with, and environments where I felt completely at ease. Yet there came a point when staying meant standing still. And that’s when I knew it was time to move on.
Here’s what I’ve learnt about outgrowing a role.
1. It’s progress, not failure
Outgrowing a position means you’re ready for the next stage in your journey. You’re creating space for bigger opportunities to come your way.
2. Every new challenge grows you
Fresh roles bring fresh lessons. The early discomfort fades, but the skills and perspective you gain last.
3. Comfort can be a trap
It feels safe, but if it no longer challenges you, it can quietly limit your potential.
The real risk isn’t leaving your comfort zone. It’s staying in it.
Growth calls for trust. Trust in your ability to adapt. Trust in the opportunities ahead. Trust that what’s next will bring purpose and fulfilment.
