Ali Aydan: If It Feels Forced, It Probably Is

In business, not every opportunity is the right one, even if it looks good at first glance. Just because you can squeeze into something doesn’t mean you should wear it.

Here’s what experience has taught me about making better choices as a leader:

1. Look past the shine.
A project might look great on paper, but ask yourself: Does it leave room for your team to grow? Will it support your long-term plans or stretch you in the wrong direction?

2. The wrong fit carries a cost.
I once took on a high-paying contract that didn’t play to our strengths. On the surface, it made sense. In reality, it drained our energy and stalled better opportunities. We learned fast that the wrong match can slow down real progress.

3. Don’t trade long-term wins for short-term comfort.
Just because you can take something on doesn’t mean it’s worth the trade-off. When you know your value and where you’re heading, turning something down becomes a strategic decision, not a missed chance.

Are you choosing what suits your vision, or just what fits for now? – Ali Aydan
