Ali Aydan: The Leadership Skill No One Talks About: Boundaries

“20 years from now, the only people who will remember you worked late are your kids.” – David Clarke

This quote stayed with me.

Early in my career, I thought long hours proved commitment. But I learned that a lack of boundaries does more harm than good. Here’s what changed my perspective:

✅ More hours don’t mean more impact
Your value isn’t measured by how long you work but by the results you create. Working smarter, not longer, leads to better outcomes.

✅ Your team follows your lead
If you’re always “on,” your team will feel they need to be too. When leaders normalise overwork, burnout becomes the culture.

✅ You can’t get lost time back
Family and friends won’t always be there waiting. Missing key moments isn’t something you can make up for later.

So, can we stay dedicated to work without sacrificing what matters outside of it? Absolutely, by setting priorities that serve both.
