Ali Aydan: Would You Still Lead If It Meant Being Judged?

Leadership isn’t about pleasing everyone. It’s about standing firm, especially when it’s uncomfortable.

Here’s what I’ve learned from leading during moments of pushback:

1. Vision isn’t always easy to follow.
If you’re building something meaningful, don’t expect instant agreement. The more forward-thinking your direction, the more likely you’ll be questioned. That’s not a red flag; it’s a sign you’re doing something original.

2. Judgement is part of the job.
You won’t please everyone, and that’s fine. What matters is learning to listen where it counts and tune out the rest. Growth doesn’t happen by staying in the safe lane.

3. Respect beats popularity.
Tough decisions aren’t always well-received. But over time, people respect leaders who are fair, consistent, and honest, even if they don’t always agree with them.

If you knew that leadership meant being regularly misunderstood or criticised, would you still do it? – Ali Aydan
