Opportunities in business are like waves.
Miss one, and there’s always another, but only if you’re ready.
After 20+ years in business, I’ve learned it’s not just about spotting opportunities.
It’s about being prepared to seize them.
Too often, we focus on the waves we missed instead of asking the real question:
Are we ready for the next one?
Here are 3 ways I’ve prepared myself and my team to catch the right wave:
1. Stay proactive, not reactive
If you’re waiting for opportunities to land in your lap, you’re already behind. Anticipating shifts and trends gives you the edge to move before the crowd.
2. Keep evolving your skill set
Opportunities favour those who are ready. I prioritise continuous learning, whether staying on top of market trends or sharpening leadership skills. The goal? Be ready for whatever comes next.
3. Don’t fear the wipeout
Some waves aren’t worth riding, and others will knock you down. That’s part of the ride. The key is not letting a stumble stop you from paddling back out.
But even with preparation, there’s a deeper challenge at play,
What if the real problem isn’t missing opportunities, but failing to recognize them when they’re right in front of you?
Most missed chances aren’t because we weren’t capable.
It’s because we weren’t looking with the right mindset.
At the end of the day, success isn’t about catching every wave.
It’s about being ready for the right one.
